Education Foundation raises $70,000 for Davis schools
Tuesday, April 29, 2008
The Davis Education Foundation held its 12th annual gala, “An Evening in Paris,” Friday evening at the Davis Conference Center in Layton. Pianist Jon Schmidt hosted the event for more than 700 guests.
“I know that a good education can make all the difference in the world,” said Schmidt. “Every day in the schools within Davis County, our educators are working to prepare young people with the skills and knowledge they are going to need to thrive and succeed in the 21st century. These champions of education deserve the community’s support, attention, praise and thanks.”
Guests participated in a silent and live auction raising more than $70,000 to go directly to Davis School District classrooms for the 2008-2009 school year. Auction items included a Dr. Seuss-themed playhouse donated by Hogan and Associates Construction, a 2008 Scion xB donated by Menlove Toyota Scion and a Disneyland vacation package from Get Away Today Vacations.

Clearfield students featured in Lucas video
Thursday, April 17, 2008
Biology students from Clearfield High School are now featured in the George Lucas Educational Foundation video library.
The students, with Vernier probes and laptops in hand, recently visited the North Davis sewer plant, trudged through local irrigation ditches and stopped at nearby farms to test water and then share findings with local governmental agencies.
The video captures how teacher Bonnie Bourgeous' students apply computers and diagnostic equipment across the curriculum to engage in hands-on learning.
